Adult Individual Psychotherapy
Dr. Engelman primarily utilizes a form of treatment called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients develop a plan to better manage emotions, relationships, and stress. An abundance of research over the past several decades supports the practical effectiveness of CBT for treatment of many mental health issues including depression, anxiety, stress-management, anger-management and addiction. Therapy focuses on empowering the client to replace unhealthy thoughts and behaviors with more self-enhancing attitudes and choices.
Couples Therapy
Dr. Engelman works with couples who experience frequent conflict, unsatisfying communication, intimacy difficulties, betrayal and challenging life transitions. Clients learn and practice practical techniques to improve communication and conflict resolution in a safe and nurturing setting.
Parenting Consultant
Dr. Engelman has led parenting classes and workshops as well as private sessions. She works with mothers and fathers of all experience levels to effectively navigate their way through the most difficult job on earth.
Family Therapy
Dr. Engelman works with several or all family members to treat a variety of issues. Sessions are safe forums during which increased understanding, empathy, respect and problem-solving occur.
Post-Rehabilitation Psychotherapy
Dr. Engelman believes that rehabilitation aftercare is the most important part of the sobriety process. Her treatment involves a straight-forward, supportive approach. Whether completing a 12-step, CBT-based, Social Model or Therapeutic Community Program, Dr. Engelman works to help clients understand the complexities of addiction and to remain sober.
